Martyn Smith
Martyn founded The Alternative Classroom after a career in both mainstream and Special Needs settings, including senior leadership roles as Designated Safeguarding Lead + Deputy Head of a KS1–4 Special Needs school in Cornwall. After moving back to Sussex, he created The Alternative Classroom to give families access to education with autonomy, compassion + flexibility.

Annabelle is a highly experienced primary teacher with over 25 years in education, including recent work in an Early Years setting. Joining the team in 2026, she brings extensive expertise, creativity + a personalised, low-demand approach, making her an ideal fit for The Alternative Classroom. Her warm + playful approach soon creates a sense of safety + connection — the perfect foundation for readiness to learn.
